Water Safety VR - practical advice for teens and young adults

INTRODUCTION

We are delighted to announce the completion of a new water safety film aimed specifically at teens and young adults. This film is the second in our crowdfunded series and was shot with the kind support of Cemex at one of their sites in Rubgy. Whilst the practical information and advice contained within this 5 minute film are applicable for both coastal locations and inland waterways, there is a heavy emphasis on lakes, rivers and quarries - just like the shoot location. Fortunately, we were blessed with a beautiful sunny day, so the site looks very inviting! Despite the huge industrial works in the background.

Following a review of the behaviour change goals for this project, we established a number of key messages:

• Make water entry unappealing.
• Understand cold water shock.
• FLOAT to live.
• How to self-recover.
• How to help someone in trouble.
• How to call for help.
• Don’t get in the water to assist.

We also wanted to ensure the film was shot in such a way that it could be delivered via headset or though social media that supports 360 video, such as Facebook and YouTube.

CROWDFUNDING SUPPORT

This project has already received contributions from the following agencies and they have access to start using the film right away. At present, we are approximately £9,000 short of the total required to make this film available to all ICE Hub members. If you are interested in supporting this film and having your logo on the end slate, please do get in touch.
